Background Information
On The Ball College in partnership with On The Ball Foundation, seeks to address the skills gap and adapt to the 4th industrial revolution through education, training, and development. The college has a robust focus on enabling women to become tech-savvy and thereby preparing them for the 4th Industrial revolution. Annually during the month of August, as part of celebrating women’s month, On The Ball College in partnership with On The Ball Foundation, hosts a Women in ICT Seminar to address the skills gap and assist females to adapt to the 4th Industrial Revolution through education, and promotion of IT training and development. The inaugural event was held in 2017 the 1st event was held at the Castle of Good Hope in partnership with a speaking out series that focused on areas communities were encouraged to talk about. The 2nd event was held in 2018 and hosted by the College of Cape Town. This saw a collaboration of educators, the city of Cape Town, schools, and industry giants in the ICT space that include Oracle, Microsoft, CompTIA reflect on the past and project on the future ahead. Both events have been made free and accessible to the community at large. The third event in 2019 hosted through On the Ball Foundation was held at UCT. There was an attendance rate of +/- 1000 female participants. Last year 2020, we have opted to host the annual event virtually. The event was titled, ‘The world of opportunities in 4IR (Resilience edition).
On The Ball College partnered with a group of six females who have established the Celebrating Womxn in IT 4.0. brand. The Celebrating Womxn in IT was formed to act collectively to foster and strengthen the role of women in ICT. Their primary goal is to contribute towards opportunities for womxn to strengthen as well as support the development of their professional skills. The event was a huge success with 500+ live attendances. On the 28th of August 2021, we will be hosting our 5th Women in ICT seminar virtually once again in partnership with Celebrating Womxn in IT and in sponsorship with our silver package sponsors Innovator Trust, Aspire Solutions, and our gold package sponsor On The Ball College with the theme being #ChoosetoChallenge. The theme is adopted from the International Women’s Day 2021 campaign theme and we hope to assist in creating a more inclusive world.
